Liz VanDyke

CPDT-KA / Behavior Technician

I started working in veterinary medicine in 2009 with a desire to help the lives of family companions through high-quality medical care. To my dismay, I found many pets did not receive the advocacy for their emotional well-being that every pet deserves during their visits. In 2016 I began training dogs in basic life skills in an attempt to help provide pet parents with a greater ability to teach their pets to tolerate routine care, rather than perpetuating high stress. As I continued to work in both training and veterinary fields, I began actively seeking out more education focused on behavior and helping pets in need. In 2019, I began conducting training with cats and my career took a turn towards primarily cooperative care training; I proudly earned my Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) title in November of 2020. Through the Fear Free Certification programs, I have achieved education and skills that have allowed me to change many lives for the better, and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I love nothing more than seeing pets, pet parents, and the bond between them grow, so I was absolutely thrilled to join the team Summer Creek Animal Clinic to help provide Fear Free, high-quality emotional and physical health care to the beloved family members of the pet lover community.

I grew up military and moved several times as a result, though Omaha, Nebraska was my home for the greatest length of time. I have worked in general practice, emergency and critical care, and orthopedics, though my true passion lies in behavior. I plan to obtain my Veterinary Technician Specialty (Behavior) among other medical and behavioral credentials. I have two dogs and one cat, and enjoy spending my spare time training with them as well as spending quality time with friends and family.
